Kevin Federline still wants to maintain sole legal and physical custody of their two boys while allowing Britney Spears to be involved in their day to day lives.

Britney Spears, 26, lost custody of her two children in January after two brief hospitalizations for psychiatric evaluation that marked a new low for the former teen pop star after a year of increasingly bizarre behavior.

Even so, Spears has since won credit for turning her life around and this week was given court permission to spend overnight visits with her sons in addition to the two daytime visits per week, she already has.

A family court in Los Angeles will still decide permanent custody in August, but the divorced couple began mediation talks earlier this week.

Federline wants to continue sole legal and physical custody. However, working out a 50-50 arrangement will still be decided by the court, or if the current mediation dialog can create a solution.

According to Federline&#39s attorney, the mediation had not yet resulted in an agreement that would avoid the August trial. However, he said the mood was positive.
