You don't have to insert a Blu-ray disc to get a Blu-ray movie with your Sony PlayStation 3

We have been hearing since the beginning that the Sony PlayStation 3 is not just for games but will be great for playing movies as well. But you don't have to load a disc to view a great Blu-ray movie, because you will be able to download your Blu-ray movie also. Additionally you will be able to download music and choose your movie format ad in HD or not.

Sony will be expanding their PlayStation offering with the launch of Sony's new movie download service. This will allow PS3 owners to download full-length movies and even music directly to the hard drive of their PS3.

There is yet no word of the pricing for the movies or music though Sony has suggested that the pricing will differ based on the type of film; whether in Blu-ray HD, or not in HD at all, each will be priced accordingly.

The only questions that remain are involving the DRM and ownership rights of those films, and whether or not they will be downloadable to users portable devices. As well, how will the user keep the movie? They will likely fill the PS3 hard drive rather quickly, then what? Some contend that this medium is actually better for movie rental rather than ownership.
