The OpenSocial Foundation is now officially created backed by major support from Yahoo, Google and MySpace. Yahoo announced Tuesday that it will join and support a new social network application created by Google. The new OpenSocial Foundation will allow developers to create applications for social networks. OpenSocial was launched in November to lure developers to create popular Web applications on social networks such as Facebook.
Yahoo, Google and MySpace said they will create the OpenSocial Foundation to maintain a neutral, community-governed forum for developing applications. It will be set up as a non-profit entity, with assets to be assigned to the new organization by July 1st. "The foundation will provide transparency and operational guidelines around technology, documentation, intellectual property, and other issues related to the evolution of the OpenSocial platform, while also ensuring all stakeholders share influence over its future direction," the renowned companies said.
