Rockstar Games, publisher of the controversial and decidedly adult Grand Theft Auto video game franchise, today announced that its eagerly awaited horror sequel Manhunt 2 will be released on October 31 after being delayed by the Entertainment Software Rating Board. Having been granted a “M” for Mature rating, the game will provide a Halloween treat for North American fans with PlayStation 2, PSP and Wii systems.

The Ratings Board originally gave Manhunt 2 an AO (Adults Only) rating, which would have greatly cut into its sales given the age of the average gamer. Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, suspended the game’s release and submitted a modified version that got approved for ages 17 and older. Along with the Mature rating, the ESRB also flagged the title for blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, strong sexual content and use of drugs.

Manhunt 2 is the debut title from the newly formed Rockstar London studio, which is developing the game in conjunction with series creator Rockstar North. The Wii version is being developed by Rockstar Toronto.

Another game hoping to receive an "M" mature rating is "<a href="http://www.lostcolonygame.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2810" title="Lost Colony">Lost Colony</a>" by Red Planet, LLC. Lost Colony is a new MMO which is launching on the PC, Mac, and Xbox 360. The game sells for $19.95 and already has thousands of people playing online through pre-order sales. This is one game to keep an eye on as its popularity is growing daily.
