The devoted couple have taken out a marriage license in Scarsdale, New York, according to an unnamed source. The pair received the marriage license Tuesday morning which is valid for 60 days. Beyonce Knowles, 26, and Shawn "Jay-Z" Carter, 38, have been dating since 2002. Beyonce appeared on Jay-Z's song '03 Bonnie & Clyde, followed by collaborations on her solo hit "Crazy in Love" in 2003. Beyonce made headlines in February when referring to Tina Turner as "the Queen" at the Grammy Awards, prompting criticism from Aretha Franklin, known as the Queen of Soul.
Aretha Franklin, who also performed at the ceremony, was sitting in the audience: Beyonce did reference her along with other top female singers before introducing Turner. "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy." Jay-Z left his post as president of Universal Music Group's Def Jam Records label after his contract expired in 2007. The rapper, who was named Def Jam president four years ago, said in a brief statement that it was "time for me to take on new challenges."
